ReVision Energy founder Bill Behrens has more than 30 years' experience in the renewable energy field. Bill took his PhD in Environmental Economics and a double BS in Electrical Engineering and Business Management at MIT in Cambridge MA where he co-authored the groundbreaking MIT environmental study The Limits to Growth. He taught briefly at Dartmouth College in Hanover NH before moving to Maine and starting a construction company; he began building solar homes in rural Maine in the late 1980’s.
In 1993 his retail company The Green Store, a joint venture with others involved in all aspects of healthy living, opened its doors in downtown Belfast Maine in his renovated 1840 brick row building. In 1999-2003 The Green Store gradually concentrated its existing solar contracting work into a standalone company originally known as EnergyWorks, then ReVision Energy. His hand has been in all aspects of ReVision’s work over the years but especially since 2011 in the creation and implementation of ReVision’s program to bring solar to the municipal and nonprofit community through the use of Power Purchase Agreements backed by mission-minded investors.
In 2017 he led the company through its transition to 100% employee ownership. In 2022, Bill stepped down from his CFO role and other day to day responsibilities and now serves as Board Chair.
Bill's home has radiant floors, a condensing gas boiler and a wood stove. His home recently got insulation upgrades, infiltration improvements, a boiler upgrade, and solar hot water to qualify it for the full Home Energy Savings Program by achieving a 50% reduction in energy costs. He also has a solar electric array.
