As part of a $45 million investment in solarizing 14 municipal buildings, the City of Boston’s Renew Boston Trust enlisted ReVision Energy to solarize the first three of these sites through a power purchasing agreement. Together generating 460,830 kWh annually for a total savings of around $18,000 in their first year of operation, ReVision’s installations at the City’s Police Department Headquarters and Tobin & Roslindale Community Centers constituted launch of an unprecedented investment in clean energy by the City of Boston. As solar savings accumulate, the City gains the opportunity to convert this investment into climate resiliency spending.
The unique features of each site called for a wide variety of equipment and approaches to installation. With the largest production capacity of the three installs, the Police Department Headquarters system consists of 707 modules across two underground-connected carports, with inverters and distribution panels mounted to steel columns. A standing-seam roof at the Tobin Community Center allowed for roof-flush mounting of 274 modules. At the Roslindale Community Center, a flat roof required ballasted racking of 375 modules.
