Via The Dartmouth , Dartmouth College is having 8 new rooftop solar arrays installed by Revision Energy, adding to 3 existing installations. Sustainability Task Force co-chair Andrew Friedland discussed Darmouth College's sustainability assessment, timeline for 100% renewable electricity, and upcoming plans for ground-mounted arrays:
Friedland said that the report's "biggest recommendation, because it's the biggest part of Dartmouth's carbon footprint, was [transitioning away from] the [use of] No. 6 fuel oil, [which is a dense, viscous mixture produced by blending heavy residual oils with a lighter oil], ... at the power plant." In order to facilitate this transition away from No. 6 fuel oil, the report suggested increasing the College's solar capabilities, pursuing wind power and reducing the energy consumption of campus food systems, Friedland said.
