Jim Hamel

Solar Design Specialist

New Hampshire

A native New Englander, Jim grew up in Massachusetts and southern NH and spent most of his early career in the nonprofit sector. After college and grad school and his first career in college student affairs, Jim returned to the northeast, switching career tracks (for the first of several times) to work in support of more equitable economic opportunities for lower-income families, notably around affordable housing. Driven mostly by a zeal just to do work that meaningfully contributes to creating lasting good in the world, Jim was eventually drawn to the world of social entrepreneurship and led the New England regional office of a start-up global nonprofit, Youth Venture, to help teenagers create and lead community-benefiting organizations of their own.

After the better part of two decades in the nonprofit sector, Jim switched career tracks again, this time as a business entrepreneur in the for-profit sector. While more rewarding financially, it didn’t nourish the soul. So, back to the nonprofit sector it was—because making a real difference for people and communities matters more. Who knew there was a happy medium between the for-profit world and nonprofits: B Corps!

With growing commitment through adulthood for environmental stewardship, a personal investment in solar for his own home, and a spouse who leads an environmental education center, Jim was naturally drawn to ReVision Energy—and especially to its social mission and organizational culture.

Self-described as “a guy who doesn’t idle particularly well,” Jim likes to be busy—especially outside, or with various home improvement projects. He lives happily in Meredith with his wife, two kids, dogs, cat, chickens, and goats.
