Senior Engineer / Branch Manager
Hans lives in Brooks, Maine with his wife Jennifer and son Turner. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Maine and New Hampshire. Growing up on the farm at the Chewonki Foundation in Wiscasset, Maine gave Hans a love of the natural world and a special appreciation for the part of Maine where the land meets the sea. Helping northern New England transition to renewable energy is one way Hans takes care of his family, community, region, and world. Before joining the ReVision Energy crew in Liberty in July of 2007, Hans worked for three years as a rigger and electrician at Brooklin Boat Yard in Brooklin, Maine.
Hans attended the Mountain School in Vershire, Vermont, followed by Phillips Exeter Academy and Dartmouth College, where he earned a B.A. and B.E., specializing in mechanical engineering. While not studying, Hans was a lightweight oarsman at Dartmouth, and had the opportunity to compete twice at the Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-on-Thames, England.
In his spare time, Hans enjoys cutting wood, reading, Nordic skiing, sailing, and rowing. He also serves as Chief of the Brooks Fire Department.
In 2010, Hans installed a 40-evacuated tube solar hot water system to supplement his home's Rinnai on-demand propane hot water heater. Electricity is provided by an 11 kilowatt grid-tied solar electric array with a Pika Energy inverter and Coral Smart Battery storage. A Mitsubishi air sourced heat pump provides shoulder season heating (and cooling!) to supplement firewood. Energy efficiency upgrades such as attic, basement, and exterior wall air sealing and insulation improvements allow wood and solar electricity to provide all heating needs as his house enters its second century. An all-electric 2015 Nissan Leaf is used for all local driving to minimize fossil fuel use.
