The Kenzi Affordable Housing Community, Roxbury MA
The Kenzi at Bartlett Station, part of a five-phase redevelopment in Roxbury, MA, needed a reliable backup power system for its 50-unit affordable housing complex. Traditional fossil fuel generators were the standard solution, but the project aimed to align with sustainability goals and meet fire and safety regulations for emergency lighting and exit systems.
ReVision Energy installed a 125kW / 44,000 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The system includes two BESS cabinets, four Kore lithium-ion battery racks, and an ELM Fieldsight microgrid controller and switchgear.
The Kenzi became Boston’s first fully electrified building over four stories to feature an emergency battery storage system. The system now provides critical power for residents during outages, including stairwell lighting and fire alarms, keeping residents safe while reducing carbon emissions and cutting operational costs.
